a. What is the distinct mood of the photograph? Explain.
The purple segment in space in this photo gives a sad and hopeless feeling. The blue segment in space represent the feeling of being lost in darkness and far away from everything.
b. What does the photo make you think about? Explain. Abstract art is a blending of art and logic that forces humans to enter and feel.
This photo makes me think about an invisible planet alone in outer space. To me it looks like there are cracks in space or maybe other planets. It makes me think about how large our galaxy really is and the rest of the universe we haven’t seen yet.
c. What in the photo jumps out at you? Explain. People often feel confusion when they don’t see objects they can recognize. They are used to having the meaning of an artwork described for them with familiar things. Abstract photography has a deep meaning without objects, the viewer just has to search for essence. Look at the work, relax, take your time and absorb. Let the meaning come out.
What jumps out at me in this photo is the dark pinkish and bright purple. It looks like a explosion in space that has ruptured the atmosphere.
d. How does the photo make you feel? Explain. A good abstract photograph will capture you and pull you in, it will create a strong emotional response and you’ll be forced to explore all its nuances.  You don’t have to know what it is about in order to feel deeply about it. Abstract photography is meant to be felt.
This photo makes me feel at peace because there is nothing but beauty in the sky. The angle it is taken at makes it seem we are looking beyond what we despise, which is represented by the apple, and looking more toward to peace or our goals.
e. What advice would you give to next year’s students for shooting abstract photography? Explain.
Advice i would give to next years students for shooting abstract photography is to take more photos than you think you would need because if you change your mind about the look of a photo or how it came out, it’s helpful and convenient to have a backup to use instead of having to go out to take more pictures.

  1. I think your water and oil photo is the best. The swirling combination of colors and reflective circles of oil give the photo a peaceful and mysterious mood. It reminds of. a nebula. The composition technique used was fill the frame. I think it was used to show more detail in the photo and make the oil “pop” out in the photo.
I liked the water beads photo, but I think you could have used the colored plastic sheets to give it a contrasting background color.
